The Confidentiality Coalition serves as an exclusive platform for joint discussion and collaboration in advancing healthcare information exchange, while protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal data by advancing innovative privacy and security policy for the healthcare environment. We enable a diverse group of organizations from all sectors of American healthcare to come together and to collaboratively create a patient-centered vision that promotes higher quality, value and interoperability in healthcare information delivery for all Americans.

Our members comprise a broad base within healthcare industry, including but not limited to hospitals, medical teaching colleges, health plans, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, vendors of electronic health records, biotech firms, employers, health product distributors, pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers, health information and research organizations and patient groups.

The Confidentiality Coalition is operated and managed by the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC).  For more information on HLC, visit www.hlc.org.

We are committed to protecting your privacy.  View our Privacy Statement for more information.

Our mission is to advocate policies and practices that safeguard the privacy of patients and healthcare consumers while, at the same time, enable the essential flow of information that is critical to the timely and effective delivery of healthcare, improvements in quality and safety, and the development of new lifesaving and life-enhancing medical interventions.  We are committed to ensuring that consumers and thought leaders are aware of the privacy protections that are currently in place.

And, as healthcare providers make the transition to a nationwide, interoperable system of electronic health information, we believe it is essential to replace the current mosaic of sometimes conflicting state privacy laws, rules, and guidelines with a strong, comprehensive national confidentiality standard.

The Confidentiality Coalition is viewed as an important educational and policy resource both to Capitol Hill and federal agency staff as they craft policy.  Additionally, the national press relies on the Confidentiality Coalition for information related to health information privacy.

Members of the Confidentiality Coalition are part of a broader group of organizations, which serves as an echo chamber on privacy-related issues.  The Coalition provides alerts on privacy-related issues, legislative and regulatory summaries and other educational materials, insider information on privacy legislation and regulation, signage on Coalition comment letters, as well as the opportunity to participate in coalition-sponsored hill briefings and industry briefings.
